In her representative novel To the Lighthouse, Woolf revealed the contradiction of reason and emotion by employing the stream-of-conciseness technique. Thus, she pointed out the essential value of emotion and regarded emotion as a great power to render life dignity. Meanwhile, she thought that emotion could help to resist the indifference of the industrial civilization. It must be pointed out that Woolf＇s aim is not to criticize reason ,but to unfold the essence of emotion and to urge people to live more sensibly.
