Religious Diplomacy and its Operating Mechanism

宗教是影响外交的重要因素。随着全球化发展,宗教复兴和非职业外交的兴起,宗教外交日益成为全球化时代的一种新外交形态。作为一种新外交形态,宗教外交在外交主体、客体、基础和手段等方面都明显区别于现代外交。宗教外交的兴起推动了外交社会化,将宗教问题的不妥协性注入以妥协为逻辑的外交过程中,增加了外交的复杂性。尽管如此,宗教外交是具有强劲生命力和发展潜力的外交形态,必将对现代外交产生深远的影响,尤其是对非宗教国家的外交带来严峻挑战,应当引起中国学术界和外交界的高度重视。

Religious diplomacy has become a remarkably novel form of diplomacy as the rise of globalization,religious resurgence,and non-professional diplomacy.It dramatically differentiates itself from modern diplomacy in terms of subject,object,foundation and implementation.The rise of religious diplomacy promoted the socialization of diplomacy and increased the complexity of foreign affairs by bringing the non-compromise nature of religion into the diplomatic process which is full of compromise.Nevertheless,religious diplomacy has shown strong vitality and development potential and will have profound impact on modern diplomacy,especially for secularized countries.Therefore,it should attract due attention from both the academic and the diplomatic domains.
