Since then, this relationship has undergone 30 years of twists and turns and complicated development. At the beginning of diplomatic relations, China- U.S. relations were like an infant teetering along, and every step was linked to the triangle relations between China, the United States and the Soviet Union. Later on when the former Soviet Union disintegrated, the bilateral relationship came across some turbulence, experiencing ups and downs because it lost its strategic common ground.
