The concept of CIMS environment is proposed in this paper. And solid model as well as its data exchange standard in the environment of information flow and exchange are discussed. Detailed description is given on the history, state of art and trend of solid modelling and data exchange standard. From this we can come to the conclusion that information integration of CAD system is very important and most diffficult, and that solid modelling and data exchange can be two of the critical issues.
