The identity construction of the hero, Henry Smart, is one of the themes in A Star Called Henry. The process of Henry' s Irish identity construction develops from personal identity construction to cultural construction. Personal name, Irland' s geography and custom, social life, religion, Irish language and Henry' s experience in the Irish nationalist movement are prominent factors involved in the course of Henry' s identity construction. These factors exert considerable tension in the post-colonial context. In the particular context, Henry' s identity construction carries the characteristics of denying and experiencing.
