William Faulkner was originally a poet though he is often regarded as up poetic writing and turned to fiction creation under Sherwood Anderson's persuasion, a fampus, novelist. He gave however, he has never given up his experimentation with the innovative methods of poetry. Approached through Geoffrey Leech's poetic devi- ational theory, such deviations as lexical, phonological, grammatical, graphological and dialectcal are employed by Faulkner to depict the characters, to reveal the characters' inner mind and dig out the Fury. Faulkner deftly intended the Campsons in mental disorder with the deviational speak the falling themes in The Sound and the languages, rendering them to apart of the family (the representative of the American South) from various aspects in languages that are suitable for their separate state of mind, identities and fate, which conforms with the theme of the inevitable downfall of the Old South in the United States of America.
