The author, by comparison and contrast, points out the guiding principles and strategies used by the two translators of Hong Lou Meng. And he comments on the successes and failures of the two versions through analyzing realization of the original writer＇ s intention, of the novel＇ s lingual art, and of its culture-specific connotations. With this as the basis, the author elaborates the nature of translation.
