Reflections on the Two Basic Issues of Rhetoric

本文对中国现代修辞学理论将修辞学定义为一种特殊的言语表达的观念提出不同的看法。围绕修辞学学科的目标与范围两个重要问题,对国内外学者提出的关于修辞学学科体系的思想和系统加以比较,试图对修辞学的定义提出新的见解。

This paper attempts to propose a view of rhetoric different from that of modem Chinese theories which define rhetoric as a peculiar way of linguistic expression. Based on a comparison of the speculations of western and Chinese rhetoricians on the two basic issues, i. e. aim and scope, it redefines the framework of rhetoric.
