Relevance theory is an important branch in the study field of pragrnatics. It has a strong explanatory power as regards translation. Under the framework of relevance - theory based translation, translating is defined as an ostensive - inferential communication involving ternary relation of author, translator and target language reader, in which translation tactics are employed by translator to help reader aehieve the optimal relevance in context, and communicate successfully with the author.
