李根源是中国近代史上知名的云南乡贤,其具有深厚的国学功底,浓厚的国学情结,在近代西学东渐的历史进程中,其一边向西方学习、一边宣传革命,同时不忘守侯着国粹、国学,在西学与国学、在革命与传承的矛盾对立中找到和获得了辩证的统一,其留心乡邦文献的搜访整理和印行,并从云南汗牛充栋的历史文献中提纯了"云南人的真精神",取得了丰硕的国学成果。

Li Genyuan was a famous county sage in Yunnan, in modem history of China, who had a deep foundation on Chinese traditional culture studies. In the historical process, he learnt from the west, publicized revolution and meanwhile he didnt forget Chinese quintessence and Chinese traditional culture. He found and accessed the dialectical unity of contradictions in the antagonistic contradiction between Western culture and Chinese traditional culture and between the revolution and heritage. He keep his eyes open on rural state literature search, collation and publication, and achieved fruitful results of Chinese traditional culture studies by extracting ＂the true spirit of Yurman people ＂ from Yunnan historical literature.
