清前期四六选本较多。从《听嘤堂四六新书》、《四六初徵》到《四六纂组》,构成了清初四六选本的发展轨迹。即形式上由各体四六文的辑录到部分四六文体的选录,最后到四六联句和段落的选择;内容上在古文骈文的对立中为骈文争取地位,强调骈文必须有用于世,并探讨骈文的艺术美。

In Early Qing Dynasty, the collection of the rhythmical prose with parallel constructions consisting of pairs of sentences of four and six characters became increasingly popular and had some changes in styles. It strived for some position for this rhythmical prose in the competition with classical prose, insisted on the practicality of the prose, and discussed the artistic beauty of the prose.
