Influenced by the misunderstanding of John Dryden and William Blake on the image of Satan in John Mihon's Paradise Lost, most scholars considered that the work was to publicize the devil's spirit of rebellion, and Milton, taking the side of Satan, expressed the spirit of revolution in 17^th century in his long poem. The article holds that this opinion did not accord with the text of poem and deviated Milton's original intention of creating the image of Satan. In fact, Milton condemned the rebellion and the degeneration brought by Satan, and his believed that one could get real freedom only by return to the holy truth.
