Fuzzy Language in Translation——An Analysis of the English Versions of Tao Te Ching

模糊性是人类语言的客观属性,这一特性赋予有限的语言表达式以无限的意义,增添了语言的魅力。然而,模糊性也给翻译工作者带来了挑战。文中以中国经典著作《道德经》第一章的英译为例,分析语言模糊性的产生,模糊语言的处理,如何在译文中保留原文的模糊性。

As the nature of human languages, fuzziness not only endows limited language expressions with unlimited meanings and add charms to language, but also brings challenges to translators. Taking the first chapter of Tao Te Ching for example, this thesis analyses the existence and treatment of fuzziness, and the ways to reserve the fuzziness of the source text in translation.
