Pragmatic Features and Translation of English Metonymy

换喻是英语修辞的一个组成部分,其特点是以事物的某一特点替代该事物。它以独特的功能在语言交流及写作中具有其他修辞手段无法替代的作用。

Metonymy, using part of thing standing for the whole, is one of English figures of speech. Its special function can not be replaced by other figures of speech in language communication and writing. This paper analyses and discusses the characteristics and pragmatic functions of the English figure of speech-metonymy, and explores methods of translating them.
