Study on the Spirit Belief of Temple Fairs in Modern Shandong Province(1840-1937)

近代山东庙会之神灵信仰,无论在演变趋势、奉祀主神,还是在信众分布、信仰取向上,都反映出其整体性衰落的共同特征。这一衰落性特征,不仅减缓了近代山东传统型庙会的发展,而且削弱了近代山东整个神灵信仰文化之公共信仰的根基。这也是山东庙会近代化的必然结果。

The common feature that the spirit belief of temple fairs in modem Shandong declined on whole has been reflected, regardless of the evolution tendency, the dedication to the gods, the distribution of believers or the belief orientation. The feature that the spirit belief in modem Shandong has declined, not only slowed down the development of the traditional temple fairs in modem Shandong, but also weakened the roots of public faith on the whole spirit belief in modern Shandong. It was an inevitable result that the temple fairs in modem Shandong modernized itself.
