The definition and concept of radiation stress of water waves are described in detail,and the various methods used to calculate radiation stress in different wave theories are systematically reviewed in the present paper. The quantitative relation between radiation stress and wave energy is given, so as to simplify the calculation of radiation sress of two - dimensional non - linear waves. The results reached in this paper will be helpful to us in not only understanding better but also in easily calculating the radiation stress.
