Cultural Changes of the Function of Ci Style in Tang and Song Dynasty

娱乐、抒怀与社交是词的主要功能。晚唐、五代和北宋词主要是以音乐形式应用于娱乐场合。北宋中期以后,随着词在社会上的广泛流行,其社交功能逐渐增强,宴词、寿词大多是社交活动的产物。进入南宋,国事变迁,词的创作与传播环境发生变化,抒怀言志成为词的主要功能之一。

The main functions of Ci are entertainment, emotion expression and social association. Ci was applied with the form of music in most entertaining occasions in late Tang dynasty, the Five dynasties and northern Song dynasty. After mid - Song, Ci became more popular and its social association function was more emphasized. Most Ci for banquet and birthday were the production of social association. When it comes to southern Song, the social environment and communication condition changed a lot, therefore, feeling and ambition expression became one of the main functions of Ci.
