On City Civilization in Roman Empire Period

罗马帝国自建立后,城市化运动随即大规模地展开。城市的发展使古罗马孕育出了伟大的城市文明,它集中体现在富丽堂皇的建筑和丰富多彩的城市生活等方面。高度发达的城市文明即是罗马帝国留给人类的一笔丰富遗产,但同时也给罗马社会发展带来了巨大的影响。人口的集中给城市带来了许多压力;娱乐的盛行消耗了大量的社会资财;流氓无产者的增加,腐蚀了公民精神。

The urbanization movement had been outspreaded cosmically since the founding of the Roman Empire. The development of cities gave birth to the great city civilization in Roman, which focus on several aspects as splendid buildings and diversified urban living. The highly developed citiy civilization was not only an abundant inheritance to human being by the Roman Empire, but also a tremendous infection to the society of the Roman as follows. The centralization of population brought along much press to the city, the prevalence of city entertainment consumed away a vast sum of social treasury, and the increased lumpen - proletarian eroded the spirit of citizen.
