夏代玉器已逐步脱离了史前的玉雕形式,开创了玉文化的新纪元。其造型讲究对称,轮廓和线条流畅,富于动感,并已经有了高超的镶嵌玉器造型的工艺;在纹饰上,大多因形赋纹,因才施艺,喜用抽象化和象征性的简约线条,手法上多用阴线雕刻、圆雕、浅浮雕和镶嵌绿松石来装饰。在此基础上,夏代玉器形成了自己独特的艺术风格,主要表现在古朴庄重,以及凝重与神秘交融等方面,具有多样统一性的特点。
