摘要
托马斯沃尔夫是20世纪30年代美国著名小说家。在他的四部长篇小说中,《天使,望故乡》是一部自传最强的作品。作者选择甘特一家的生活发展片断,勾勒出了20世纪初美国人的生活、精神状况。由于受到现代哲学与弗洛伊德心理学理论的影响,托马斯沃尔夫能熟练地将哲学思想应用到作品中,反映了他对每个人类个体与人生的哲学思考与理解。从自我主义、爱与信仰的缺失、怨恨与死亡的恐惧等方面入手,分析了作品与叔本华人生哲学之间的关系,解释了美国一战后人们普遍的价值观,也进一步展示与重构了人类存在中的悲观意义。
Thomas Wolfe is one of the famous American novelists in 1930s. Among his 4 saga novels, Look Homeward, Angel is the most autobiographical. The author ctooses some segments of the life of the Ganders and draws an outline of the living conditions and spirits of Americans at the beginning of the 20th century. Influenced by modern philosophy and Freud's psychology, Thomas Wolfe is excellent at applying philosophical ideas to his works, reflecting his philosophical thinking and understanding of indiv: duals and life. Proceeding with the egoism, lack of love and faith, malice and the dread of death, this essay analyses tee relationship between the work and Schopenhauer's philosophy of life, and explains the universal values in America ~fter the First World War, and it further shows and reconstructs the pessimistic meaning in human existence.
