欧洲中世纪大学教育脱胎于宗教神学教育,有着浓厚的宗教色彩。但随着欧洲封建经济的发展及以后封建城市的出现、崛起,大学教育逐渐增加了社会职业技术教育的内容,同时也培养了大批人文主义学者和思想家,大学作为维护封建宗教统治的手段在一定程度上却扮演了相反的角色,为欧洲的社会进步作出了重要贡献。欧洲中世纪大学的产生、演变是欧洲封建文明发展进程的表现形式之一。

Campus education in Middle Ages Europe derives from the religious theological education which has large religious features. But with the development of European feudal economy, the appearance and rising of feudal cities, the campus education gradually added the content of the technical and vocational training. Also it trained a large number of humanism scholars and thinkers. As a mean to protect the feudal religious rule, universities to a certain content played an opposite role, they made important contribution to the European society progress. The development and the evolution of universities in Middle Ages are one of the manifestations of the European feudal civilization process.
