英汉习语翻译中的文化差异

On Cultural Difference of English and Chinese Idiomatic Translation

习语是人们经过长期使用而提炼出来的语言精华,是人们长期习用的形式简单而又意思精辟的定型词组或短语。英汉文化的不同造成英汉习语中存在着很大的差异。能否忠实、准确地用译语再现原语习语,就要求译者首先认清英汉习语中的文化差异,在分析英汉习语文化差异的基础上,采用具体的翻译方法,达到准确、专业的翻译效果。

Idioms are gems of a language which have been refined through ages application. Idioms are fixed sentences or phrases which are concise in form and comprehensive in meaning. The differences between English culture and Chinese culture lead to the difference between English Idioms and Chinese Idioms. Therefore, translators have to understand better the difference between English culture and Chinese culture so as to render idioms from the SL into the TL faithfully and effectively. Based on the study of the difference, this paper analyses and solves the problems caused by cultural factors in translating Chinese idioms into English ones and vice versa. Then several translation methods have been proposed in dealing with idiom translation.
