Analysis of Chinese-English Translation Errors in Public Signs Based on the Functionalist Translation Theory

公示语向来被称做"城市的脸孔",在社会生活中发挥着重要的作用。公示语翻译的错误比比皆是,这大大影响了公示语作用的发挥。根据功能翻译理论对翻译误差的划分,通过语用、文化、语言三个方面讨论分析公示语英译的误差。

Public signs play such an important role in our daily life that they have always been called ＂the face of the city＂. Nowadays, bilingual public signs are found in most cities. In many places, public sign translation errors occur so frequently that they lower the quality of the translation. Based on the classification of translation errors by functionalist translation theory, the paper analyzes the pragmatic, cultural and linguistic translation errors in public signs.
