中国的新式公共交通肇始于19世纪晚期,它是中国城市近代转型发展的产物。新式公共交通在中国兴起以后,不断嬗递变更,成为推动城市早期现代化的重要动力和衡量城市兴衰发展的重要尺度。

Chinese modem public transportation emerged in late 19th century, which was also the product of modem Chinese cities in its period of transitional development. After its emergence, the new-style transportation has undergone constant changes. It has become an important momentum to propel early modernization of Chinese cities and the yardstick to measure a city＇s prosperity.
