Cultural Difference of English Idioms and Their Translation Strategies

习语是民族文化的集中沉淀。由于地理位置、风俗习惯、宗教信仰以及历史渊源等方面的不同,英汉习语表现出巨大的的文化差异。为了自然准确地传递文化信息,英汉习语的互译应视具体情况或代换、或直译、或加注、或意译。

This paper analyses the cultural differences between English and Chinese idioms based on contrastive linguistics, such as different geographic locations, different social customs, different faiths and different historical allusions. In order to convey their cultural information faithfully and effectively, we find equivalents, translate literally and freely, give notes if necessary.
