东西方历史文化中都有一种根深蒂固的男尊女卑思想。在《献给爱米丽的一朵玫瑰花》中,福克纳借助爱米丽.格里尔森经典形象戏剧性的转变,一方面表达了对南方传统文明有着极其深厚的情感和眷恋,同时也揭露了南方传统文化中的黑暗、蒙昧与残忍及其对人性的扭典的一面。从而使受众在叹息中品味爱米莉形象转变中蕴藏着的深层寓意,即对男权与父权的批判以及对南方文明的眷恋与深思。

In A Rose for Emily, by borrowing the dramatic change of the Emily Grierson, Faulkner expresses his deep feelings and attachment to the southern civilization, and on the other hand, he also discloses the dark,barbaric and cruel side of the southern traditional culture so that the readers can appreciate in their sighing the moral meaning implied in the change of image of Emily： the criticism of male chauvinism and patriarchy and the attachment to the southern civilization.
