In 1950,a large number of financial institutions closed and bankrupted in Shanghai that brought significant impact upon the economy and finance. It greatly affected the survival road choice of the private financial industry, and compelled the new government to rethink and adjust the policy of how to deal with private industrial and commercial enterprises.Based on unpublished documents preserved in the Shanghai Municipal Archives, the paper analyzes the causes and influence of this financial unrest. It argues that it may be the last financial crisis in modern Chinese history.Compared with other financial crises, this one had its own particularity in causes and impact.
