商丘古代教育形成了优良的传统。墨子重视因材施教,强调学以致用,主张"强说人"和"行说人",重视科学技术教育和劳动教育,主张述而且作,培养弟子的创新精神。庄子主张"行不言之教",常用寓言故事与弟子交流,注意培养他们的形象思维能力和创造力。惠施以善辩为名,善于培养论辩人才。应天书院的办学特点有:实行开放式办学;典型的官办书院;以经义、文学为主要教学内容,以培养廊庙之器为教学目标;与科举关系密切;执教者多为博学之士,教学有方,对学生要求严格;关爱贫困学子,师生关系密切;学生学习刻苦,志向高远;培养了众多的杰出人才,影响深远。
Shangqiu ancient education has good traditions. Mozi proposes teaching according to students' appitude, study for the sake of application, forceful teaching and teaching by deeds. He pays attention to science and technology education, speaking and doing, and the development of students originality. Zhuangzi puts forward original teaching method, talks with students and develops their thinking ability and creativity. Huishi is famous for his oration and has produced many orators. Yingtian Academy of classical Learning has many characteristics. Its teaching content is classic works and its purpose is to develop politicians and officials. The teachers are knowlegeable, strict and kind. This academy has produced many famous figures.
