should通常被用作情态动词,表达"义务"、"推测"等情态意义。但通过对许多例句的研究发现,事实并非总是如此。若should所处的that分句是表达情感的形容词的补语,或是带有评论性的形容词作补语的外置主语,那么它有时也可能用于表达纯粹的事实。

'Should' is usually treated as a modal verb,hence used in sentences expressing obligation,assumption,etc.But after investigating into many examples,the author of this paper points out that it is not always the case.In fact 'should'can occasionally be used in a 'that'clause to express a mere fact if the clause serves as a complement to an emotive adjective or as an extraposed subject with a commentarial adjective as its complement.
