Combining with the characteristics of seabed sediment elements,this text discussed the restrictive factors and principles of seabed sediment elements symbols' design.It presented the definition and their characteristics of seabed sediment elements,and then analysed the influences making by several important restrictive factors to the symbols' design,at last gave the design principles of seabed sediment elements.It could offer some valuable references to the design and production of seabed sediment thematic maps as well as the developing of seabed sediment information analysis system.
