A Cognitive Context-based Descriptive Analysis of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber

"语境效果"是关联理论中的核心概念之一,但迄今为止,能自觉地将它与实际文本结合的研究并不多见。此概念可用以分析海明威的短篇小说《弗朗西斯·麦康伯短促的快乐生活》,即从麦康伯性格转变看矛盾语境效果的衍生,从马格特的性格分析看暗示的语境效果,从叙述艺术角度看语境效果:作者对于人物形象的成功描写和塑造,在很大程度上得益于语境效果的自觉或不自觉的使用。

Contextual effect has been one of the core concepts of the Relevance Theory.However,there are few studies relating contextual effect to literary texts so far.This paper argues that the concept of contextual effect can be applied to the analysis of Hemingway's novella The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber.Hemingway's success in the description and characterization of characters in the story lies in the effective use of contextual effects such as the shift of Macomber's characteristic,the illustration of Magrate's characteristic and the artistic effect of narration.
