The Reproduction of Artistic Conception——An Appreciation of the Two Chinese Translations of A Psalm of Life

本文从诗歌审美的两要素——诗歌形式与诗歌意境将英诗"生命礼赞"两中文译本与原文作了对比研究。刘宓庆教授认为,诗歌审美的两要素直接关系到诗歌的美学价值,而对它们的成功再现自然也成为文学翻译中的关键。本文通过对比分析得出结论:虽然两个中文译本都有各自的缺憾,但从总体上来说它们都成功再现了原诗的意境,也证明在翻译过程中对诗歌审美两要素的权衡和达成使原诗意境的重现成为可能。

The paper compares the two Chinese translations of the English poem A Psalm of Life with the source text in the aspects of its two aesthetic constituents——the poetic form and ideorealm.These two aspects,according to Professor Liu Miqing,contribute directly to the aesthetic values of the source text,and the reproduction of them naturally becomes the central part in literary translation.This paper argues that although the two translations of the poem have some weak points respectively,on the whole they successfully reproduce the artistic conception,and illustrate the possibility of translating and evaluating poetry through the weighing or realization of the two aesthetic constituents.
