On the Intrinsic Rules and Freely Creative Features of Cursive Script

草书的辨识和书写确非易事,因为它既有严格的内在规定性又有恣意挥洒的自由成分。其内在规定性表现在对汉文字“形”的再规定和对线条的再诠释,草书的自由挥洒表现在对“形”之上的神采和意趣的追求。草书由隶书演变而来,它从“象形”中慢慢剥离出来而具“神采”,从文字实用性中走出来而具抽象的艺术特质。

The identification and writing of Cursive Script is not easy because it has both the strict intrinsic rules and freely creative features. Its intrinsic rules are manifested through the new prescription of the shape of Chinese Characters and new annotation of its lines; and its freely creative features are displayed in the pursuit of demeanour and mood. Cursive Script evolves from the Official Script, gradually coming off from Pictographic with demeanour and derived from the practicability of characters with abstract artistic characteristics.
