On Power of Education and Freedom of Children

在人们通常的理解中,权力与自由是一对矛盾:有权力的地方就缺少自由,要争取自由就得推翻权力。权力与自由的关系果真如此对立而不可调和吗?事实并非如此。尤其是在教育活动中,教育的权力与儿童的自由应该是并行不悖的,没有权力的教育将失去价值的引导,而剥夺了自由的教育就会充满专制和暴力。问题的关键在于如何正确理解和运用权力与自由。

It seems that power and freedom are two contrary concepts:where there is power,there is no freedom;to strive after freedom,one should overthrow the power.But they actually can be reconciled if we can view it differently.In education activities,power and freedom are not mutually exclusive;education without power will lose the guidance of value,and education without freedom will be full of autocracy and violence.The most crucial is how to understand and apply the two concepts properly.
