The strange phenomenon of American literature history is that, drama, which is blooming in both Europe and Asia, lags far more behind novel and poetry.Based on historical materials, this paper tentatively analyses the essence of Puritanism and drama, pointing out that certain history caused the conflict between the two and eventually resulted in the difficult situation of early American drama.
