论文摘要中的模糊限制语——基于对应用语言学论文摘要的个案研究

科学论文中,模糊限制语的使用可以使论文陈述的命题更趋严谨、周全,可以保护作者,减轻作者所负的责任还可体现作者对读者的敬重态度等语用功能。本文通过对20篇应用语言学期刊论文的英文摘要内部不同的部分模糊限制语的分布统计分析表明,论文摘要中模糊限制语的使用,呈现以下特点:从数量上看,摘要的讨论部分限制语数量最多,简介和结果部分次之,方法部分几乎没有;从限制语的种类看,直接缓和型和程度变动型限制语的使用广泛,范围变动型次之,而间接缓和型限制语的数量最少。论文对这种现象进行了解释,并探讨了这一现象对摘要和科学论文写作的启示。

Hedges in scientific research papers can make the claims more precise and acceptable, mitigate the author’s responsibility and represent the author’s respect to the reader. This paper, through quantitative analysis of the num- ber of hedges in the different moves of 20 English abstracts in Applied Linguistics, suggests that the number of hedges decreases gradually from the section ofdiscussion, introduction and re- sults to method within abstracts; and that direct shield, adaptor and rounder are used more widely than indirect shield. This paper attempts to account for these fea- tures and show implications for abstract and academic paper writing.
