在中国引进西方文学的历史上,第一个介绍到中国来的是美国诗人朗费罗,译成汉语的第一首英语诗歌是他的《人生颂》。朗费罗的诗歌在19世纪下半叶为中国封建士大夫所欣赏,20世纪初曾激活了郭沫若的诗心,在中国现代诗歌觉醒的过程中发挥过启蒙作用。尽管五四以后直至70年代他几乎被中国现代诗歌遗忘,但却永远不会在中美文学交流史的记忆里消失。

In the history Longfellow is the first American poet to be introduced from the west to China, whose 'A Psalm of Life' is the first English poem translated into Chinese. Longfellow's poems were appreciated by Chinese feudal scholars in the late 19th century, inspired Guo Moruo at the beginning of the 20th century, and enlightened modem Chinese poets in the course of the wakening of Chinese poetry. Although he was almost neglected by Chinese modern poems from the May 4th Movement until 1970s, he will never vanish from the Sino -America literary communication history.
