The Essential Goal of Second Language Teaching Is to Develop Students' Intercultural Communication Competence

本文提出第二语言教学的主要任务是培养学生的跨文化交际能力,即由语言交际能力、非语言交际能力、语言规则和交际规则的转化能力以及文化适应能力所组成的综合能力。作者认为,在教学中需要处理好课堂教学环境、第二文化环境和跨文化交际环境之间的关系,将课堂教学置于跨文化交际环境之中。

This paper discusses the relationship between second language teaching(SLT) and intercultural communication. The author's argument is that the essential goal of SLTis to develop students' intercultural communication competence, and thus the classroom teaching should focus on the need of intercultural communication.
