The paper illustrates the characteristics of the separated subgrade and its applicable conditions, explores the types of the separated subgrade and designs for the plane surface, longitudinal sections, cross sections, subgrade protection and subgrade drainage, analyzes some problems which need to be noticed in the design of the separated subgrade, and points out the separated subgrade has advantages in overcoming the height differences, reducing excavation and protecting the ecological environment, and so on.
