谈国际音标的发展变化及英语教学

A Talk On the Development of the English Phonetics and English Teaching

英语语音近几十年来发生了很大变化。90年代末 Gimson 的语音理论开始走入中国,这一理论在我国尚未作大力宣传,广大英语教学工作者及学生对这一理论尚十分陌生。在这种情况下,我国大中小学的教科书、各种词典及工具书就用许多新的音标符号混合对英语词汇注音,这对英语教学和学习是有害无益的。这一现象目前对我国(特别是中小学)的英语教学有一定的负面影响。作者认为,目前应对 Gimson 语音体系作大力宣传和普及,首先应让广大英语教师懂得他的理论及其长短元音之间的差异,然后再向中小学推广。他认为注音符号不宜繁杂,要有科学性。英语教学在中国是一个最大的教学工程。在英语注音符号使用问题上,国家应该有一个统一的规定。这样对教师教学和学生学习都有好处。

English pronunciation has changed greatly in recent years.At the end of the 90s Gimson 's theory of the English pronunciation came into China.But till now this theory is not publicized in China and the broad masses of the English teachers and learners are quite new to the theory.In such a situation,in the author's opinion,it is quite harmful to the English learners,for using many new phonetics symbols,mixed with the old symbols together,to note the English words in all the school text books(from primary schools to universities)and dictionaries.This has a great side effect on the English teaching and learning(esp.to the primary and middle schools).The author thinks that it would be better for us to publicize Gimson's theory in the country first and make the English teachers have a thorough understanding about the differences between the long and short vowels,and its varieties of the diphthongs,and then to use them in the text books and dictionaries.English teaching is the biggest education project in China.It would be good to have a unified standard on the English phonetic symbols for the English teaching and learning in our country.
