乌拉特人的音乐生活建立在“乌拉特哆”与“鄂尔多斯哆”、“浩沁哆”与“新哆”、“希鲁格哆”与“花儿哆”等二分概念基础上。这些概念分别象征了乌拉特人社会层面上的“我者 他者”、时间层面上的“过去 现在” ,以及民间礼俗生活中不同礼俗角色间形成的尊贵 普通的身份观念。属于不同概念范畴的民歌 ,具有不同的文化属性和形态表现。乌拉特人在不同的文化场域中分别使用这些概念 ,并通过音乐行为赋予它以社会的和文化的意义 ,用来建构音乐生活的多彩世界。

The Music life of Wulate people is based on the dimidiate conceptions of “Wulate Songs', “Hochin songs', “Xin Songs', “Xorog Songs', and “Huar Songs'. The conceptions respectively symbolize the status of ordinary or noble people in the social life reflected in the folk customs. The folk songs of different conceptions have their different cultural attributes and forms. Wulate people use these conceptions to construct the colorful music world and by means of the music behavior, they give music social and cultural meanings.
