A Tentative Study of Morals of Tang Dynasty Etiquette

自古以来,礼仪就是维护封建统治的重要手段。唐朝礼仪在继承传统的基础上,还有一定程度的创新,贯穿在社会生活的各个领域。这些礼仪都是具有道德性的:传统的祭祀礼乐体现了宗教道德;与周边各民族、国家的外交礼仪反映了唐王朝的"主和"思想;男女着装礼仪又是与传统道德背道而驰的;师生之间仍以"尊师"为核心;养老始终以"孝"为中心。

The etiquette has been an important means which maintains the feudal rule since the ancient times. The Tang Dynasty etiquette has not only inherited the tradition, but also it has some innovations penetrating in each domain of social life in certain extent. All of these have morals： the traditional sacrificially ritual music has manifested the religious morals; the diplomatic etiquette with peripheral various countries and nationalities has reflected the ＂advocating peace＂ thought of Tang Dynasty; The male and female clothing etiquette runs counter to the traditional virtues; To respect teachers is still the core between the teachers and students; The filial piety is the center of retirement throughout.
