Human beings and Humanity——On the character of Bai Jiaxuan in“The story of Bai and Lu”

白嘉轩这个人物形象是极其复杂的,一方面他具有儒家的仁义思想,另一方面他又具有宗法制度吃人本质,因此,也就不可避免地铸就了他的悲剧命运,白嘉轩的悲剧也即民族传统文化的悲剧。白嘉轩信奉的“仁义”思想已被历史所革除,但它所蕴含的某些精华品质,在今天仍具有某些超越性和可继承性。

The character of Bai Jia xuan is very comlicated.One side he has humanity of the confucianists.On the other side he has man eating nature of feudalisim system.So Bai Jia xuan's fate must be tragedy.The humanity idea Bai holds has been forsaken in history,but the core it contains still has some qualities that surpass the time.and so worthy of being carried forward.
