It is an emergence of a new aesthetic formation for the modern ceramic artists to apply the fire and clay as a medium of expression. It is a breakthrough in the principles of the classical ceramic aesthetics to a great extent. Besides the participation in the social activities and the humanities, the artists have been more engaged with tapping and displaying the individual colors in the fire and clay in order to seek a full expression of personal feeling. The result is the achievement of the independent personality and the presentation of the artist's emotions coming from the composition, clay materials, selection of glazes and the methods of expression to firing, The artist was having a hand in every link to discover, enhance and distill the features of fire and clay which tally with his Own emotions and individuality. Fire and clay are not only the essential materials, but also the position of ontology for the ceramic art because it runs through the three phases of ceramic creation: aesthetic emergence, aesthetic creation and aesthetic acceptance,The attitude towards the fire and clay in the modern ceramic art is quite different from the traditional ceramic art throughout the whole creation. The main points are different manners of engagement and whether the artist has acquired individual emotions and personality. Some of the traditional artists give prominence to the immediate benefits and produce quantities of ceramics out of practicality such as the production of the daily ornaments. They repeat the same themes again and again within the limit of some of the classical aesthetic principles of the ceramic art.Another school of traditional ceramists have their own ideas on the fire and clay, i.e. apply the present technological methods to express the strong feelings of the artists. The traditional but not mass-produced ceramics are the results influenced mainly by a preference for the primitive culture and affirmation of self-value, The modern ceramics are the results achieved by the physical and chemical reactions which are brought about by the temperature and gaseous atmosphere. These reactions change its original nature and appearance. The transformation of the clay through firing is the basic difference from other artistic creations. It is the very difference that has bestowed the particularity on the creation (composition and movemtents) of the modem ceramic art. The manifestation of this particularity is cultivated mainly by a phenomenon that a ceramist can not have a general command of a whole ceramic works at only one time. The impulse for creation usually comes into being when the ceramist is looking for the factors of creation. Fire and clay are among the main factors for the impulse of creation.
