1, 5-Benzothiazepines 1 react with phenylacetyl chloride to give the title compounds.The structures of these new compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, ~1H NMR, ^(13)C NMRand MS spectroscopy, and their configuration (the mutual positions of the substituents relative to theβ-lactam ring) and conformation of the compounds were determined by X-ray crystal analysis.
