Objective:To investigate the analgesic effect of “outgoing Qi”from Qigong performer for the further study of the mechanism of “Qigong anaesthesia”.Methods:The experiments were performed in 6 rabbits, the head-flick thresholds were measured after K^+ ionophoresis was administered to the skin of the ear tips.In 15 rats the tail-flick and head-move- ment thresholds were determined by direct current stimulation to the animals' tails. And in 11 subjects pain torlerance threshholds of neck skin were detected by K^+ ionophoresis method. Then the changes of the above pain threshold indexes were observed respectively before and after the discharge of “outgoing Qi” from the Qigong performer to the animals and men. Results:None of the indexes increased significantly during and after “outgoing Qi”treatment. The potentials e- yoked by the tooth-pulp stimulation recorded from the scalp in 11 rats showed no significant changes during and after “out- going Qi”treatment. In humans, the pain tolerance thresholds measured with K^+ ionophoresis method in 11 subjects did not increase significantly after “outgoing Qi”treatment,By autogenous contrast,no significant correlation between the effects of “outgoing Qi”on the experimental pain and the effectiveness of Qigong anaesthesia were found during surgical operations. Conclusions:The results might be considered negative;they are at variance with those reported by other au- thors in the literature. It is proposed that the problem shoud be cautiously studied further.
