“The exquisite masterpiece of our cosmos ”──Wang Guowei's comments on Red Chamber Dream reevaluated

本文针对当前红学研究中不少人误入歧途的现状，重评王国维的《红楼梦评论》，深入地讨论了其所取得的学术成就，高度肯定了王国维《红楼梦评论》第一次用文学、美学和哲学的观点系统地研究《红楼梦》的态度、方法和方向，并着重指出，王国维从文学、美学的视角切入，排除掉种种“红外线”式的谬误，抓住了它的根本性特征，在今天来说，依然是高屋建瓴、胜人一筹的。

ln view of the current situation in which many have gone astray in their stud- ies on Red Chamber Dream, this paper makes an in-depth investigation into Wang Guowei's academic attainments in his Comments on Red Chamber Dream and evaluates highly his atti- tude , orientation and methodology in the research of the great novel through grasping its es- sential features and approaching them from the angle of literature , esthetics and philosophy at the expense of the existing trends of research that went so far as to claim nothing to do with the novel itself. The paper is of opinion that the fact that Wang Guowei approached Red Chamber Dream from a commanding height along with his evaluation of the great novel as ' the exquisite masterpiece of our cosmos ' is indeed beyond parallel.
