在世纪之交的时刻,走可持续发展道路,保护生态环境,已成为全人类的共识。1997年9月24日至28日,一个高扬“生命·环境·发展”旗帜的盛会——“中国四川成都’97国际熊猫节”隆重举行,来自世界30多个国家和地区的7000余名宾客与数百万群众共同为这盛大的节日欢呼庆贺。
The'97 Chengdu International Giant Panda Festival was solemnly held in Chengdu,Sichuan,China from Sep. 24 to 28,1997.Some 7,000 guests from more than 30 countries and regions celebrated it joyfully together with millions of locals. During the festival,a series of international symposiums on the subjects such as 21st Century Environmental Protection and Urban Development,the Protection of Endangered Rare Wildlife Like Giant Panda,the Water Resource Protection and Urban Development and the annual meeting of the Global 500 Forum were held in addition to theatrical performances,photo and art exhibitions and unveiling ceremony of a sculpture with the “Global 500”symbol in the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding and Research Base. Dr.Wimala Ponniah,senior environmental affairs official of UNEP spoke highly of the festival .She said that the Giant Panda Festival was a pure,sublime event without any commercial flavor,offering a chance for people to perform real deeds in environmental protection.
