ZIGONG LANTERN SHOWNUMBER ONE IN THE WORLD

自贡地区早在唐代就有新年赏灯的习俗,明清时发展为各种会节。本世纪初,除每年农历10月10日盛行提灯会外,点灯杆、持宫灯和狮龙舞、莲花灯等仍为会节的主要喜庆活动,具有浓郁的地方风情和民间色彩。

Zigong people have had the custom of appreciating lanterns in New Year holidays since Tang Dynasty.The event evolved into various fairs and festivals during Ming and Qing dynasties.After New China was founded,Zigong City sponsored 14 lantern shows with scale expanding from small to large.The lanterns that are made by means of combining traditional skill with modern technology display harmonious integration of shape,color,sound,light and motion, representing modern colored lantern art sophistication. In recent years,with the aim of“taking lantern show as media to make friends extensively and revitalize local economy”,Zigong City also held the International Dinosaur Lantern Show in an attempt to promote business through cultural activities.Moreover,the lantern show was also held 45 times in 38 cities across the country and 15 times in Singapore,Malaysia,Japan, South Korea and Taiwan Province,attracting some 40 million domestic and overseas visitors.Therefore,it attained the reputation of No.1 Lantern show in the world. Fortunately,'98 Fifth International Dinosaur Lantern Show and Trade Fair is scheduled to open in Zigong from Jan.21 through Mar.9,1998.
