Never Leave Poverty To 21st Century

5月中旬,宁夏人民望眼欲穿的扶贫扬黄灌区建设工程举行奠基典礼的时候,锣鼓喧天,欢声雷动,人们的眼睛里闪烁着喜悦的泪花。国土面积6.6万平方公里的宁夏,贫困地区就占全区总面积的59％;500万人口的一个省区,贫困人口就占45％。

Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has a population of 5 million,among which the poor amounts to 45% with 1.38 million people living below the official poverty line.The regional government decided to invest 3 billion yuan in the project of raising water level of the Yellow River by 300 m and more in steps over a period of 6 years to build some 2 million mu of irrigation area.After the project is completed, 1 million people who are now living in the south of the Region,where the basic conditions for both production and subsistence are poor, will be relocated in the irrigation area to shake off poverty once and for all.
